Katarina Witt started skating at age five. Her success allowed her to show her skill and was accepted into a Karl-Marx-Stadt Special School for gifted kids. There she saw the coach Jutta M ller. Witt finished second at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. Her debut was a huge success. The elegance and grace of Witt captured the eyes of everyone and she has dominated her sport ever since. Olympic success Katarina (now Witt) won the Women's Figure Skating Gold Medal during Sarajevo in the Sarajevo Winter Games. Four years later, the event, she was able to win an even more competitive race. Even though she fell short in the free-skating competition, the gold medal was awarded to her performance on the compulsory figures as well as the short program. Witt was the first woman to be a repeatedly crowned winner of figure skating after Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt competed at Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 after a successful career as an actor. The team finished seventh, but she wowed the crowd even though she didn't win a medal. Witt received her induction to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995.
