Aurora Aksnes' first musical memories involve finding a tiny piano hidden in the basement and bewildered by the sound it created. Jan Oystein Aksnes' parents May Britt Aksnes encouraged her to make music as a means of the sake of personal development, and not to earn money or to pursue an interest. To achieve this, she began writing new compositions. She credits renowned composers Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan as influences as well as an affinity for Bjork's style. The singer decided to perform her music in public when her mom suggested they can help other people, not gain acclaim for her music, but rather to help the people around them understand their importance and the ways they can affect the world. She started playing piano when she was only six and began writing music by the time she was nine. Her family didn't hear about her musical journey until she was 14. Aurora was not a dream of her childhood. Aurora says she loves to compose songs. She believes music can make anyone feel better.
